- 4 fl oz black tea kombucha

- Fresh strawberry and herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions

- Stir the ingredients together until thoroughly mixed.
- Add the ice cubes to chill the drink (optional).
- Slice the strawberry into thin slices and place them on the rim of the glass with fresh herbs to garnish.
Notes
Use organic acai and other organic ingredients for higher quality.
Generally speaking, acai juice has added sweeteners. However, if you want to skip the extra sugar, look for unsweetened acai berry juice, which may lessen the drink’s sweetness.
If you cannot find spirulina powder, you can substitute hemp seeds, moringa powder, or wheatgrass powder. Or, you can leave the spirulina out, though you will be leaving out a source of protein and many essential nutrients.
You can make this recipe with green tea or white tea kombucha. This will give you a burst of even more antioxidants, which can aid the body in preventing and slowing cell damage by free radicals.
Ensure to measure the ingredients of this recipe cautiously. They are balanced perfectly here, but too much spirulina could make this tea bitter.

What Does Acai Kombucha Juice Taste Like?
While kombucha has somewhat of a vinegary taste, the acai juice adds an earthy yet fruity flavor. Spirulina powder has a bit of an earthy taste, though because you are using such a small amount, you won’t get too much of this flavor profile.
Because the kombucha tea isn’t fermented a second time, it has only a hint of carbonation. If you prefer more fizz, add the acai juice, cap the bottles, and leave them at room temperature for a couple of days. Then, refrigerate the juice for six hours, add the spirulina, and enjoy.
What is Acai?
Acai comes from the acai palm tree, native to Central and South America. The tree produces a reddish-purple fruit exceptionally high in antioxidants, healthy fats, and fiber.
The fruit is considered a “superfruit.” It has an earthy taste, like a cross between blackberries and unsweetened chocolate. Fresh berries have a short shelf life, but frozen fruit purees, dried powder, and pressed juice are often readily available in stores and online (via Amazon or other sites).
What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is a type of algae loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that can benefit your brain and body. Often sold as a greenish-colored powder, this superfood boasts several health benefits because it is rich in nutrients and a good source of protein.
This powder has an earthy, somewhat fishy flavor that many people don’t like. However, when mixed with the other bold flavors of kombucha and acai, you can hardly taste the spirulina powder.
Spirulina can be found in certain health food stores or ordered online (via Amazon or other health food sites).
What Are the Health Benefits of Acai Kombucha Juice?
The health benefits of kombucha are no secret. The kombucha culture (SCOBY) that ferments the tea is an excellent source of probiotics, is high in antioxidants, may help to reduce heart disease and the risk of cancer, and can help manage type 2 diabetes. Combined with acai and spirulina, this drink is a powerhouse of nutrients and benefits.
Acai berry juice:
- Contains more antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or strawberries
- May help to reduce swelling
- Might help lower blood pressure
- Can help boost the immune system
Spirulina powder:
- Is a potent source of nutrients
- Contains some antioxidants
- May help with pain-relief
- Might have anti-inflammatory properties
- May have brain-protective properties
- Contains a plant-based protein called phycocyanin
How Much Caffeine Is In Acai Kombucha Juice?
Because acai and spirulina do not contain caffeine, the only caffeine you will receive in this drink is from the kombucha. There is roughly 7 mg of caffeine per 4 fl oz of kombucha.
How Many Calories Are In Acai Kombucha Juice?
There are approximately 47 calories per 8 fl oz of acai kombucha. Each 4 oz serving of kombucha has about 15 calories, and two ounces of acai has about 32 calories, depending on the brand and whether or not it’s sweetened.
Should You Make This Recipe with Young, Sweet Kombucha or Older, Sour Kombucha?
Because this recipe combines unique flavors, I suggest making it with young, sweet kombucha. Acai and spirulina both have an earthy flavor. Leaving some sugar in the fermented tea helps meld and round out the flavors. I would stop the fermentation around day eight.
However, if you prefer, you can try this recipe with older kombucha. Homebrewing is all about experimenting and finding what works best for you.
